Car Work

Monday 14 September 1992 | general

We started working on my car tonight. Tomorrow mom will try to find a strut assembly and I could, conceivably, I could have the thing going by the end of the week.

Mom, dad and I had an interesting conversation coming home from the Johnstons’ tonight. It was about my natural mother and when and how I could find out who she is. I can go to court and find out who she is when I’m twenty‑one. I’ll want to know if she would want to meet me before I come barging into her life after over twenty years. So I’ll track her down. I’ll get her number and get someone to call her and tell her that I am interested in talking to her or meeting her. If she wants me to I’ll go and meet her. I wonder if she ever thinks about me. Mom said that she had some recollection of something about my natural mother. She was a teenage girl who was in the choir at a local Methodist church. My father was in the carpentry industry. He did not (or would not or could not) marry her and she did not want to raise me alone so she put me up for adoption. So now I’m left wondering what led up to my birth, what she looks like, if she thinks about me; any number of details like that.
