Parenting is often about firsts when there’s only one child. First this, first that — first dance recital.
I’ve never been interested in dance, but even if I were, I’d pick a small-town dance school’s summer recital over even the greatest ballet. There’s a charm and an innocence in the young girls that unifies an auditorium filled with strangers and makes us all feel truly optimistic for 120 minutes.
Of course, it was the Girl’s scene that stole my heart.
Later, we had a sad conversation. “Tata, they were laughing at us.”
How do you explain the joy behind the laughter? How do you explain that the audience was enjoying the performance so much that it brought them to laughter? K and I tried, but I’m not sure we convinced her.
Too cute!! I know you both are very proud of your little girl. :D
That’s Papa’s girl. She seemed to be the only one following all the steps in the dance. It was the girl on the left end facing the stage that was being laughed at because she was only occasionally do some of the steps like the others – which was still really too cute. Papa is sorry he missed her first recital – I won’t miss the next one.
I’m so sorry we were unable to be at Lena’s recital. Thank you for making the video so we could see what a talented young princess we have! Watching the video brought smiles and tears of joy to my eyes — imagine if I had been there to see her in person!
To L:
No, Punkin, they weren’t laughing “at” you, they were laughing with happiness at seeing all you youngest dancers giving such a delightful performance. Nana and Papa are so proud of you! We could tell that you really practiced and you did a fantastic job!
